Making the Most out of Your Online Therapy Session

You can attend your therapy session as long as you are in a safe, private place and you are physically located in California at the time of your session.

Your safety is priority! Sessions will take place on a trusted HIPPA compliant video platform that you can log in to using your unique Client Portal.
At the start of treatment, we will review safety guidelines to support and prioritize safety during your sessions. For example, if you log in to your appointment and you are not at home or at an address that’s on file, then I will ask you to let me know where you're located during the session to ensure that I can support you in case of an emergency or if we need assistance for any reason.
Sessions cannot be safely held if you are driving or commuting somewhere.
We will also keep in mind certain factors that may point to needing additional care or care in a different type of format other than online. For example, we will assess risk level, or need for higher level of care, which may lead to referrals for appropriate care.

Yes! Research has shown that online therapy can be effective in treating anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Since I have been practicing as a therapist, I have found creative ways to support my client's growth through online therapy. Whether your therapy session involves somatic, cognitive, psychodynamic, or even art practices, your session will be similar to in person sessions.

Preparing for your session is a key factor to helping your sessions run smoothly! Here are some tips:
Make sure that your device is charged well! This helps reduce interruptions in therapy sessions, such as devices dying in the middle of session, or affecting your focus on session because you're worried about how much battery you have left. Something to consider is having a portable charger, or having your device plugged in during session.
Check your internet connection before you log in to ensure that you are in a space that has a strong signal. This helps to decrease interruptions in session and the anxiety of relocating to a more stable spot with better connection.
Try keeping a designated "toolbox" with you during your therapy session. Sometimes you may want to write something down, or need a support tool to help you focus during session. Sometimes my clients will keep a small notebook and a pencil box with a pen and their choice of a support tool (clay, a smooth stone, or fidget toy) to use throughout their session.
Limit your distractions to support your focus on your growth. If you live with other people, you can let them know that you need privacy for an hour and to not come into your room. Be mindful of sensory distractions, such as audio or visual distractions that may hinder your ability to stay present in the session, such as your T.V. or loud music in the background.
